Ben Foster

Ben Foster

1852-1926

Ben Foster was not professionally involved in art until he was thirty. After likely being inspired by the career of his older brother, Charles, Ben began seeking education opportunities to find a stable job in the arts.

He studied at The Art Students League under Abbott Thayer, as well as Aime Morot and Oliver Merson in Paris.

Building a name for himself with Tonalist landscape paintings of the New England countryside, critical acclaim, and personal connections with other artists allowed Ben to succeed despite his late start in the industry.
